Th e fi rst nominal initiative related to the “Greaterserbianness” was materialized in 1888 during the reign of king Milan Obrenović, by launching the “Greater Serbia” publication edited by Stevan Vladislav Kaćanski. During the Great war,
the “Greaterserbianness” was being mentioned via the new “Greater Serbia” publication (with its editorial offi ces in Valjevo, Niš and Th essaloniki), which, since
1917, was increasingly shift ing from Serbian to Yugoslav organ. In the Kingdom
of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, immediately aft er the unifi cation, the Serbiannes
totally disappeared, giving way to the growing Yugoslav idea. Th e Serbian idea was
maintained by minor Serbian party, founded at the end of 1920, and its “Greater
Serbia” publication which was published irregularly during the short period of
time (1921-26), edited by lawyer Kosta Novaković. Th e idea of the “Greater Ser bia”, i.e. of the united Serb lands was dismissed by Serbian dynasties (Obrenović,
Karađorđević...) and by vast majority of Serbian political parties in the name of the
imposed Yugoslavness as a Western liberal national-ideological project.
Th rough ideological Serbophobic stereotypes Serbs were portrayed as
Greatserbian hegemonists, although in 1918 they sacrifi ced their position of winner and their consolidated statehood, which led to total abolition of the aforementioned Serbian national and state institutions and symbols. Due to the imposed
Yugoslavness, Kingdom of Serbia came into humiliating position of negotiating with
representatives of the defeated Austrian administrative territories (provinces).
