Међународни контекст у коме је створена Краљевина Срба Хрвата и Словенаца

Abstract

Неопходни предуслов за стварање заједничке државе Јужних Словена био је пораз и потоњи силазак са историјске сцене Аустроугарске. Овако постављен југословенски програм српске владе није током Великог рата уживао подршку савезника. По мишљењу савезничких влада целокупан напор морао је бити усредсређен на победу у ратном сукобу а императиван захтев за распад и поделу Аустроугарске томе није доприносио. Пораз Аустроугарске је заправо означио крах њеног целокупног државног и војног система и распад по националном принципу, чиме су коначно створени услови за југословенско уједињење. Међутим, Италија је Лондон ским уговором стекла право на већи део Источне обале Јадрана и као једна од великих сила се оштро противила било каквом облику повезивања Јужних Словена. Стога савезници нису признали ни представничко тело нити државу створену у југословенским покрајинама Аустроугарске. Заједничка држава са Србијом је тако била једино решење за Словенце, Хрвате и Србе из Аустроугарске, које им је омогућавало да по завршетку рата пређу на победничку страну и да под окриљем српских победа настоје да заштите своје и интересе заједничке државе.

Materialization of Serbian government’s Yugoslav program stated in the Niš Declaration in December 1914 depended on support from allies’ governments. Joint state of the South Slavs was not one of the war goals of the allies’ coalition. Among allies’ governments there was no consensus about the need of breakup of Austria-Hungary, which was key prerequisite for creation of the joint state. Austria-Hungary was still considered an important factor for balance of power in Europe. Th e imperative of achieving victory on the Western front made the allies view Austria-Hungary as a weak link in the opponents’ coalition, one which should not be forced into bitter defense by excessive demands, but instead should be persuaded into the need for separate peace. Only aft er Austria-Hungary signed peace treaties with Russia and Romania and fi nally gave up on the separate peace, allies’ governments started considering its division on national basis. Italy was, however, fi rmly against creation of the Yugoslav state on the eastern Adriatic shore, because it would jeopardize its plans, based on the Treaty of London, for political and economic domination in the Balkans and Central Europe. Defeat of Austria-Hungary in the war turned into crash of its institutions, but even then, due to Italy’s opposition, Yugoslav state did not get support from the allies’ governments. Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was created due to fear from Italy as the only solution for the Slovenes, Croats and Serbs who were living in Austria-Hungary
