The main goal of this research is to provide more information on areas which are insufficiently
linguistically explored, such as village Dragovac. This language area belongs to
Smederevo-Vršac dialect, which is spoken in northeastern Šumadija, Lower Great Morava
Valley and Banat. Smederevo-Vršac is usually classified as a subdialect of the Kosovo-Resava
dialect. This paper primarily defines the nature of existing accents, and then describes
transfers characteristic for this areal. This dialect has preserved the older accent system
– which consists of two types of falling accents (one long and one short) and one rising accent
(long), and unstressed syllables, which can be long and short. Both long and short unstressed
syllables could precede the stressed syllables. As to the nature of accents, it is not
much different from those in the literary language. On the other hand, transfer of accents is
mainly Old-Shtokavian. The process known as Neo-Shtokavian or metatony is unusual ...in
this language area. Finally, we have shown that the Smederevo-Vršac dialect is linguistically
closer to the Kosovo-Resava dialect, although it is often considered as a separate dialect
since it represents mixed speech of Šumadija-Vojvodina and Kosovo-Resava dialects.
