Владан Ђорђевић и Српско лекарско друштво

Abstract

Све до половине 19. века пролазили су векови без суштински великих напредака у медицини. Узроци болести нису били познати. За заразне болести се веровало да су изазване „кужним испарењима“ из земље („мијазмама“), чијем ширењу помaжу влага и ветрови. Скоро све болести лечене су пуштањем крви. Нелечени пацијенти често су боље пролазили од лечених. У 19. веку откривена је анестезија а затим бактерије као узрочници заразних болести и инфекције рана. Изненада се појавила нада да се многе смртоносне болести и њихове епидемије могу спречити. Скоро свакодневне новине у медицини нису могли пратити ни највреднији ле кари. Зато су, тамо где већ нису постојала, оснивана лекарска друштва, чији је један од циљева био да разменом информација, предавањима, дискусијама и чланцима у часописима, процесом који данас зовемо „континуираном медицинском едукацијом“, лекари једни другима помогну да што ажурније прате новине у медицини.Потребу за оснивањем једног таквог друштва благовремено су схватили и српски лекари. Прва идеја о оснивању лекарског друштва јавила се у Србским новинама 1859. године а први покушај оснивања лекарског друштва учинили су доктори Јован Валента и Аћим Медовић 1868. године. На иницијативу др Владана Ђорђевића, Српско лекарско друштво је основано 22. априла по старом (4. маја по новом) календару 1872. године. Основан је и часопис Српски архив за целокупно лекарство. У оснивању Друштва, писању друштвеног Устава, оснивању и уређивању првих бројева његовог часописа, раду Друштва, његовом опстанку у тешким годинама и деценијама које су уследиле и његовом напретку, др Владан Ђорђевић имао је важну улогу.

Until the 19th century, hundreds of years had passed without any major progress in medicine. The causes of the diseases were not known. For infectious diseases, it was believed to be caused by contagious evaporations („miasmas“) from the soil, whose spread was supported by moisture and winds. Blood-letting was almost an universal method of treatment for all diseases, even in patients having severe anemia. So, it was not surprising that the untreated patients, frequently had better chances of recovery then the treated ones. In the second half of the 19th century, a number of new discoveries took place. First, anesthesia was discovered and then bacterias causing infectious diseases, so that doctors stopped talking about „miasmas“ and „miasmathic“ diseases. The hope that such diseases could be prevented appeared. It became very difficult, if not impossible to follow new discoveries in medicine that were emerging almost on a daily basis even for the most capable and hardworking doctors.That is why the medical societies started to be founded if not already existed before. The main idea was that, through mutual efforts, exchange of information, lectures, discussions and articles published in medical journals, through process that we today call “a continuous medical education”, physicians help each other better follow novelties in medicine. Serbian doctors early recognized the need for such a society. The first idea of the es tablishment of such a society appeared in Srbske novine in 1859. The first, but unsuccessful attempt to found such a society was made in 1868 by doctors Jovan Valenta and Aćim Medović. The successful attempt to establish the Sеrbian Medical Society took place on 22 April (4 May according to the new calendar) in 1872. The society also launched its journal, Srpski arhiv za celokupno lekarstvo (Serbian Archives of Medicine).In the foundation of the Society, foundation of its journal, in preparing its Statute, its work, even its very existence in the difficult years and decades that followed and its entire progress for many years, Dr Vladan Đorđević played a decisive or important role. The Society founded by him is approaching 150 years of the continuous existence and very successful work.
