Attested in the transcripts of the Code of Stephan Dushan as well as in some other medieval texts written in the vernacular Serbian speech, is a frequent use of the particle -зи, аs opposed to a rare occurence of the particle -jwith demonstrative pronouns and other pronouns and adverbs derived from them. This paper presents material from three transcripts of the Code (the Prizren, Athos and Bistrica ones) accompanied with statistical data from several other ones. In the most archaic transcripts -зи осcurs very often and -j quite rarely. In later transcripts this ratio is somewhat altered to the benefit of -j. The analysis presented above brings us to a conclusion that in the transcripts of the Code the examples with -j particle are secondary, so we have no proof of its existence in the original version of the Codex. The particle-зи, оп the other hand, is broadly attested in all the early transcripts, which means that it was characteristic of the original version of the Code... of Tsar Stephan Dushan.
