Стсрп. стльпь : рус. дијал. столп, столб ‘деоница пољопривредног земљишта’

Abstract

Разматра се српско‑руска изоглоса, стсрп. стльпь, срп. дијал. ступ (Херцеговина, Црна Гора) ‘деоница пољопривредног земљишта’ : рус. дијал. столп, столб у истом значењу < псл. *sъtlpъ / *stъlbъ ‘стуб’. Дато значење могло се развити непосредном применом псл. речи као метафоре за тракаст комад земљишта или преко глагола *(ob‑)stъlpiti ‘омеђити побијеним ступцима’.

The term stlp (written stlьpь) designating a portion of arable land is well attested in Old Serbian monastic charters since the 14th century; before the end of the 15th century, its form has changed into stup, which has survived up to our days in some parts of Montenegro and Herzegovina. It is matched both formally and semantically by Russian dialect stolp with the (better attested) variant stolb. Doubtlessly the Balto‑Slavic word for ‘post, pole, pillar’ is underlying, Common Slavic *stъlpъ / *stъlbъ, Lithuanian stulp̃ as / stulb̃ as. The agricultural meaning may have developed from its metaphoric use to designate a strip of land, or via a denominative verb, cf. Old Russian ostolpiti, Lithuanian stulpúoti ‘to mark field boundaries with wooden posts’.
