Даничићев рад на историји језика у Друштву српске словесности : (1857-1861)

Abstract

According to Stojan Novaković, Đuro Daničić, the most prominent Serbian linguist of the 19th century, having finished the preparation of his new Serbian literary language, devoted a great part of his time to studying old Serbian written monuments and their complex analysis and publishing, while actively working in the Society of Serbian Letters (1857–1861) and in Belgrade in general (1856–1866). This was undoubtedly influenced by his direct encounter with the manuscripts in the National Library and the Society of Serbian Letters. In this period, he created two of his remarkable works – Serbian Syntax and The Dictionary of Serbian Literary Relics, which was published in three separate books and is of great significance to this topic. Those works alone would have been enough for securing him a place among the greatest men of Serbian culture. His Dictionary, the first of its kind in the Slavic world, represents a great start in Serbian philology and has not been exceeded to date. It will undoubtedly take the same place in the history of language, as did the dictionaries of Vuk Karadžić in studying the contemporary Serbian language. In his approach to historical data he showed the same scientific spirit which assertively supported Vuk’s linguistic concept, tirelessly and systematically working with a transparent plan and impressive results

У овоме прилогу даје се преглед Даничићева рада на историји језика и сродним дисциплинама у време његова десетогодишњег боравка у Београду (1856–1866), док је обављао дужност секретара Друштва српске словесности. У овом периоду када је најснажније утицао на развој српског књижевног језика, Даничић је велику пажњу посветио изучавању српске језичке прошлости. Тада је започео његов непосредан и плодотворан рад на средњовековним изворима. Озбиљно продубљивање научних сазнања о историјској димензији народнога језика (и о староме књижевном језику) водило је солидном заокруживању научне представе о српском језику. Иако то није предмет овога рада, треба нагласити да је тиме, у суштини, избор младог књижевног језика на народним основама морао добити чврст ослонац у очима представника српске културе и читавог друштва, насупрот другом језичком моделу који није имао такве темеље.
