Тhe Krashovani population, together with the Serbian minority in Romania
and the Romanian community of the Almash Mountain region share a common
practice of celebrating the family feast of the Saint-patron-of-the-family. Among
the Serbian communities of Romania it is known by the name of светац /svetats/,
светак /svetak/, слава /slava/, among Krashovani, by the name of слáвẹње /
slavenie/, слáвиње /slavinie/ and among the Romanians of the Almash Mountain region by the name of prázńic. Although there have been made efforts to summon
ethnographic data about these customs among the three communities, not enough
has been done to compare the collected materials. This communication aims to
give contribution to the comparative approach to the topic, focusing mainly on the
Krashovani slavenie and the svetac of the Serbian communities of Svinica, Klisura
and Poljadija regions in Romania. The Serbian material from Klisura and Poljadija
has been collected by a team of researchers from ...the Institute of Ethnography
SASA during two fieldwork expeditions (June 2017 and June 2019), within the
project The Research of the Culture and the History of Serbs in Rоmania led by Prof.
dr Mihai Radan. Although the focus will be placed on the slava customs of these
four communities, the fact that the Serbian variants of the custom are rooted in
the Serbian slava customs, there will be offered a short insight into the main lines
of common structural and semiotic elements of the Serbian slava in general and
the Krashovani slavenie.
