О једном месту у повељи Стефана Немањића Хиландару

Abstract

Крај аренге у повељи великог жупана Стефана Немањића манастиру Хиландару (око 1207) добро је објављен, али се најчешће погрешно преводи. Уместо Стефанове намере да се буде код гроба светог Симеона монаха, ово место треба превести као Стефанову жељу да дође у Хиландар и постане монах крај гроба свог оца светог Симеона. Тек треба испитати да ли је та Стефанова жеља за монашењем била стварна или изречена у одговарајућем контексту повеље.

(c. 1207) has caused much confusion over its correct understanding, which may best be seen from the translations of the charter into modern languages. It has been commonly accepted that in this part of the charter Stefan’s expresses his wish to make a pilgrimage to Hilandar and the church of the Virgin by the grave of St Symeon the Monk. This passage should, however, be understood in a different way: Stefan hopes that God will find him worthy of being admitted to Hilandar and becoming its monk by the grave of St Symeon. Analysis of other texts written by Stefan provides evidence that he expresses the wish to enter monastic life elsewhere as well, and in order that he may, in that respect too, follow in the footsteps of his father, Stefan Nemanja, monk Symeon.
