AB - Mixtures of BaCO3-ZnO-TiO2 were mechanically activated using high-energy planetary ball mill during 20, 40 and 80 min. As the time of mechanical activation increased, the decrease in particle size was observed. The effect of milling on microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, as well. Sintering process was performed in air at 1100 and 1200 C for 2 h. Various phases are present within mixtures sintered at 1100 and 1200 degrees C, and almost pure BaZn2Ti4O11 phase was obtained after 80 min of milling and sintering at 1200 degrees C for 2 h.

AB - The aim of this work was to analyse the kinetics and microstructure evolution of ZnO sintering process. ZnO powder was isothermally sintered (15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min) in the temperature range from 8000C to 12000C. The values of Lenel parameter were calculated and used for the analysis of the densification and mass transport processes. Using scanning electron microscopy the analysis of the microstructure evolution and dependence of the average grain size with temperature and time of sintering was obtained. The results of this research could enable development of a new phenomenological equations in the analyses of ZnO-based materials sintering kinetics.

AB - Photoacoustic phase and amplitude spectra of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 – δ samples synthesised 18 years ago were measured and numerically analysed. The value of thermal diffusivity obtained on the aged samples was lower than the values obtained for fresh samples. Far infrared spectra of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 – δ samples synthesised 18 years ago were recorded and analysed enabling determination of reflectivity peak phonon frequencies present at room temperature. X-ray diffraction analysis and far infrared reflectivity measurements enabled determination of a slight change of the oxygen content with time. The YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 – δ samples synthesised 18 years ago still remained superconducting, which was confirmed by resistivity measurements of the samples between 50 K and room temperature where the critical temperature was reduced from 93 to 73 K. Atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray microanalytical measurements were also performed confirming the composition of the sample.

Fotoakustični (FA) fazni i amplitudski spektri sinterovanih uzoraka snimljeni su u funkciji čopovane frekvencije upotrebljenog laserskog zračenja (crveni laser snage 25 mW, λ = 632 nm) u toplotno-transmisionoj konfiguraciji. Teorijska analiza eksperimentalnih rezultata FA merenja na osnovu Rosencvvaig-Gersho termalno-klipnog mode- la omogućila je izračunavanje toplotne dijuzivnosti, D (m2s-1), difuzionog koeficijenta manjinskih slobodnih nosilaca, D (m2s-1) i optičkog apsorpci- onog koeficijenta (m-1)
AB - In this paper the changes that occured in differently activated ZnO-SnO(2) and sintered samples were investigated using photoacoustic spectroscopy. ZnO and SnO(2) powders, mixed in the molar ratio 2:1, were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill for 10-160 min. The mixtures were pressed and isothermally sintered at 1300 degrees C for two hours. X-ray diffraction analysis of the obtained sintered samples was performed in order to investigate changes of the phase composition and confirmed only the presence of a pure zinc stannate (Zn(2)SnO(4)) phase in all the sintered samples as a result of the solid state reaction and reaction sintering between the starting ZnO and SnO(2) powders. The microstructure of the sintered samples was examined by scanning electron microscopy and showed that mechanical activation leads to the formation of a structure with reduced particle size which accelerates spinel formation. Grain growth of the spinel phase slows down the densification process and together with the agglomerates formed during mechanical activation causes the appearance of a porous microstructure. The photoacoustic (PA) phase and amplitude spectra of the sintered samples were recorded as a function of the chopped frequency of the laser beam used (red laser with a power of 25 mW, lambda = 632 nm) in a thermal-transmission detection configuration. PA experimental data were analyzed using the Rosenzweig-Gersho thermal-piston model, which enabled determination of the thermal diffusivity, D(T) (m(2) s(-1)), diffusion coefficient of the minority free carriers D (m(2)s(-1)) and the optical absorption coefficient (m(-1)). The detected differences of the measured thermal-electrical properties of the obtained Zn(2)SnO(4) ceramics indicate changes in the material induced by the different preparation procedure of the starting powders before the sintering process.

AB - Ceramic materials with a perovskite related structures such as non-doped and doped barium titanate ceramics are attracting much interest for their application as capacitor dielectrics, resistors, thermal sensors, etc. Since mechanical activation can be used in order to modify properties of these materials, in this study microstructure evolution and electric properties of mechanically activated BaTiO3 have been analyzed. The sintering process of high purity non-doped mechanically activated BaTiO3 was monitored using a sensitive dilatometer with a heating rate of 10 degrees C/min. Investigation of the microstructure evolution of mechanically activated BaTiO3 was performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and digital pattern recognition (DPR) methods. A dielectric study of the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition in the barium titanate ceramics was performed by recording the temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity.

abstract = "Ceramic materials with a perovskite related structures such as non-doped and doped barium titanate ceramics are attracting much interest for their application as capacitor dielectrics, resistors, thermal sensors, etc. A dielectric study of the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition in the barium titanate ceramics was performed by recording the temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity.",

The interaction of bentonite with NaOH breaks up large bentonite aggregates, saturates smectite with Na cations, and yields Ca(OH)(2). The addition of TMA is accompanied by its penetration into the interlayer space and adsorption on the surface.

AB - In this paper the influence of tribophysical activation on non-isothermal sintering of barium titanate has been investigated. BaTiO3 Powders were tribophysically activated in a planetary ball mill for 0, 60 and 120 min., pressed and non-isothermally sintered up to 1380 degrees C. Dilatometric analysis was performed in air in the temperature range from room temperature to 1380 degrees C with heating rates of 10, 20 and 30 degrees C/min. The samples were analyzed by the X-ray powder diffraction method. Investigation of the morphology of microstructure constituents was performed using the scanning electron microsocopy method. With the purpose of optimizing technological parameters the results obtained by microstructure analysis were correlated with the results of quantitative dilatometric analysis.

AB - Freeze-drying, as a cryochemical powder processing method is applied in the synthesis of ZnO submicrometer to narrosized powders. The process involves rapid freezing of the sprayed precursor solution, drying under vacuum by sublimation of the Solvent and salt decomposition to oxide by thermal treatment. Calcination of dehydrated Zn(NO3)(2) was performed through destruction of the primary crystal structure, i.e. through accumulation of different defect complexes and based on this, the formation of a new state of the ZnO crystal lattice. An analysis of the microstructure evolution of zinc oxide particles in the temperature range from 548 to 898 K is described. The research was performed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). It was shown that the least ("primary") coherent scattering region (580 Angstrom) and the most defective state were ZnO obtained at the lowest calcination temperature (T-c = 548 K). Increase of the calcination temperature (T-c > 548 K) favors uniting of eight closest "primary" domains into "secondary" ones. Unification is accompanied by a pronounced increase in microstrainin "secondary" domains, whose size practically does not depend on the calcination temperature in the region 573-898 K.
