abstract = "Dragoljub Jovanović was one of a few civic politicians in the Kingdom of
Yugoslavia who collaborated with the communists, p around anti-fascist policies. Still, the relationship between him and the communists was one of distrust.
Jovanovic was a FPRY National Assembly representative between 1945 and 1947.
In the Assembly he spoke against the one-party system, stressing out that his
People’s Farmers Party advocated for peasants, and the CPY (Communist Party
of Yugoslavia) advocated for workers. He supported the formation of farmers’
working collectives, but he was against the state’s strong say in the collectives. He
supported neither one-sided, pro-Soviet Yugoslav foreign policy, nor the wide
scope of authority the new law gave to public attorneys. Because of this, he was
being attacked and insulted by the majority party representatives. The conflict
with the communists around key topics which the new system was based on led
to Jovanović’s expulsion from the Assembly and his arrest.",
